Portraits
Portraits let you generate a character's or NPC's face on the fly, without hunting for artwork or drawing by hand. The image is created on the spot by an AI that runs on our servers: you pick a few options (race, archetype, colors, style) and in a few seconds you get a portrait framed at head and shoulders, ready to save to your account and attach to a sheet. It's one of the product's AI features, so it uses credits (unlike the tabletop tools, which are free).
What it's for
A portrait gives a face to your characters and to the NPCs you meet at the table. It's useful when:
- You're creating a character and want a matching image instead of an empty frame.
- You need an NPC's face on the spot (an innkeeper, a merchant, an enemy) during the session.
- You want to populate your gallery with faces to reuse across different adventures.
The framing is always head-and-shoulders, i.e. a close-up suited to a portrait/avatar, not a full-body figure.
How to generate a portrait
- Open the Portraits feature in the app.
- Set the options with the dropdown menus (for example race and archetype) and use the free-text fields for details you want to specify yourself (for example the colors of hair, eyes, skin or clothing).
- Choose the image style from its selector: the style changes the artistic look of the portrait.
- Start the generation. After a few seconds the portrait appears.
- If you like it, it's saved to your account and goes into your gallery; from there you can reuse it, for example by assigning it to a character sheet.
You can combine the dropdowns (guided choices) with the free-text fields (your own details) to get closer to the face you have in mind.
Options and style
- Dropdown menus: the main choices like race and archetype, so you can start quickly with sensible combinations.
- Free-text fields: your own text for details, typically colors and the character's specific traits.
- Selectable style: choose the artistic look of the image from a list of available styles.
Some extra options may carry a small cost supplement compared to the base portrait: you see it at the moment you choose.
Credits and cost
Generating a portrait spends credits (it's an AI feature). The cost of a base portrait is modest; some extra options add a supplement. Before generating you see how much the operation costs, so you can decide knowingly. Remember you have two kinds of credit: periodic ones, which recharge every week based on your level, and purchased ones, which never expire.
Every generation is recorded in an anti-fraud log: it only serves to make generations traceable and verifiable by the administration, and changes nothing in your normal use.
Where portraits go
Every portrait you generate is saved to your account and collected in your image gallery, in the section dedicated to portraits. From there you can find them and reuse them whenever you want, for example to assign them to a character sheet in the creator.
