Troubleshooting

When something doesn't work as you expect, the cause is almost always one of a few recurring things. This page collects the most common problems and the right move for each, in practical order. The first rule applies to everything: after an update, reload the page properly before concluding there's a fault.

The Master AI "can't find" some content

The chat searches the indexed manuals and then the AI answers citing the sources: so retrieval and the answer are two different steps, and the fault can be in either one. If it tells you "not found" or answers poorly, don't assume it's the search. Check in this order:

  1. Right setting. Make sure you've selected the correct setting (Vulcania, Eberron, Forgotten Realms or Generic): the choice points the search at that world's manuals.
  2. Exact names. Search using the terms verbatim as they appear in the manual (proper names, rule titles). A misspelled or hand-translated name can miss the right passage.
  3. Specific question. Rephrase more precisely and concretely instead of a vague question.
  4. Indexed content. If after this it still can't find it, that content may not be indexed yet in that manual.

Often the cause isn't the search engine but the setting's prompt or the model: it actually happened that an English question about Italian manuals got "not found" only because the prompt was set to Italian, not because the search failed. If the problem persists on content you know exists, report it to support giving the setting, the question and the answer you received.

Cartographer: Vision doesn't reveal the map

If on the Table the fog of war doesn't open where it should (walls don't block sight or rooms don't reveal), the typical cause is that the map's walls haven't been generated. The fix: go back into the editor (Cartographer) and re-save the map: saving regenerates the wall data used by vision. Then reopen the Table and reload.

Players don't see a token

If on the online Table a token exists for you but the players don't see it, check two things:

  • GM layer. The token might be on a layer reserved for the Game Master, which players don't see. Move it to a layer visible to everyone if you want it to appear.
  • Fog / vision. The token may be covered by fog of war or outside the revealed area. Reveal the area or move the token to where vision is open.

Something broke after an update

After we publish an update, the browser may cache the old version and show odd behavior. The cure is simple:

  1. Reload the page forcing a cache flush with Ctrl+F5 (on Mac, a forced reload from the browser).
  2. If you're in an online Table room, reopen the room after reloading.
  3. If it still doesn't recover, close and reopen the browser tab and log in again.

If the problem remains after all this, write to support describing what you were doing and what happened.
