Credits in a nutshell

Almost everything you do in GameMasterBuddy is free. Credits are only needed for the features that use artificial intelligence, because those require heavy computation on our servers. Here we explain how the system works, what's free and what costs, so you always know where you're spending.

The two wallets

Your balance is split into two kinds of credits, which add together when you use an AI feature:

  • Periodic credits — they top up every week based on your level. They're your recurring allowance: if you don't use them within the week, at the reset they start again from your level's value (they don't pile up forever).
  • Purchased credits — the ones you buy never expire. They stay in your wallet until you use them.

When you spend, the system draws from your credits so as to leave you the greatest possible advantage; you simply see the total available balance.

How many weekly credits

The periodic top-up depends on your account level:

  • Free: 150 credits per week.
  • Mid level: 750 credits per week.
  • Higher level: 3000 credits per week.

Newly approved accounts start at the free level with 150 weekly credits.

What's free and what costs

The rule is simple: if something runs in your browser, it's free; if the AI generates it on our servers, it costs credits.

Free (no credits):

  • All the tabletop tools (dice, tracker, generators, stat sheets, timers, notes) and the Bench.
  • The Cartographer (map editor) and the Online table.
  • Saving characters, maps and presets to your account, and browsing the Library.

Credit-based (they use AI):

  • The Master AI chat.
  • The DM helper (the mini AI chat inside the Bench).
  • AI-generated Portraits.
  • One-shot Studio, when it generates the adventure's content.

Where you see your balance and how to get more

Your balance is visible in your account area. It refills on its own every week according to your level. If you need more credits than your weekly allowance, the way is to move up a level or (when available) buy credits that never expire. During the beta, extra credits can also be granted by the administrator.
