Cartographer (Battlemap)

The Cartographer is the top-down battle map editor (Inkarnate/Dungeondraft style) built into GMB. You paint terrain, walls, rooms and props, organise everything in layers like in Photoshop, save to your account and export a high-resolution PNG (256 px per cell: 1 printed cell = 1 real inch).

The production editor is Battlemap 2.0, with a WebGL engine that stays crisp at any zoom.

The drawing tools

  • Brush — paints textures (or a flat colour) on the terrain, with softness and scale.
  • Shape — rectangles/ellipses/polygons filled with texture, with wavy edges.
  • Line — a texture ribbon warped along a path: walls, roads, rivers, coastlines.
  • Room — a non-destructive vector object: wall + floor + shadow + doors, always reshapeable.
  • Stamp — props and tokens from the catalogue, with variants and effects.
  • Blueprint — a prefab of several stamps placed as a single block.
  • Eraser — erases on the terrain.

Layers, saving, export

Content sits on layers with eye, lock, opacity, order and groups. The map is saved to your account (with autosave and a thumbnail) and exported as PNG. From the editor you can also project the sheet to the players or generate the ~4K image that feeds the Table.

Cost and plans

The editor and drawing are free. The exception is the Stamp Studio, which generates new stamps with AI (uses credits). Some catalogue textures are reserved for higher plans and appear locked (grey = Base, gold = Pro).
